APPARENT
RETROGRADE
MOTION
I find difficulty in grasping the idea of endless possibility and an endless stream of emotion.
Apparent Retrograde Motion refers to the scientific phenomenon observed when two planets or large bodies in super-synchronous orbit are aligned for a brief moment. During this moment, from either perspective, the other body appears to have changed course—even as they move in the same direction. I find this to be a perfect metaphor for human interaction. My photographs offer small details of a larger world, just as two strangers crossing paths might offer small glimpses of the emotions and thoughts held within one another through brief, non-verbal, interactions.
Although the images allow for only one perspective it is my hope and hypothesis that the theme is universal. It is my belief that while a wide range of emotions is felt by every being on the planet, individuals are unique in how they feel or have felt them.
